It’s finally competition day! My partner and I had invested countless late nights and endless study sessions, all for this moment. In our regional competition, the destination was Northampton Community College. Walking to the venue, we were greeted with a crown of fellow participants from different schools. The atmosphere was definitely exciting. Everyone was talking, studying and doing their last trials on their science experiments.
My partner and I there to compete in three topics, “Write It Do It” (which is my favorite), “Anatomy”, and “Dynamic Planet”. Each brought its own set of challenges, but we were ready for them. We were ready to put our knowledge and teamwork to the ultimate test.
In “Write It Do It”, given a complex structure built by someone else, I had to write instructions and my partner had to recreate the structure with my instructions. It was a race against time and it turned out to be an exercise in teamwork.
“Anatomy” was a perfect reason for me to study the respiratory system and digestive system. I never thought anatomy would be this fun to learn about, identifying structures and answering questions about systems that keeps us alive truly made me realize how astonishing our body is. As we confidently labeled diagrams and knew the answers for the questions, it felt like our hard-earned knowledge was finally being put to test.
For “World Dynamics” we had the chance to bring in a file we made into the test, which saved us a lot of time. There were so many questions about rivers and maps that I studied before hand and I was very happy to be able to answer them.
As the competition was coming to an end, and the results were announced, a mix of satisfaction flooded our hearts. My partner and I celebrated securing fourth place in all the events we participated in. Beyond the accomplishment, what truly mattered to me was the insights I gained and the experiences we shared.
I am definitely going to go in Science Olympiad as well because of the incredible experience, giving me a boost of confidence and commitment to lifelong learning.
